Famicom Disk System Treasures (and Tribulations) // Famicom Dojo / Snacks

Famicom Disk System collecting is a double-edged sword. No, that's not a floppy disk joke. Wait... yes it was. Floppy disks degrade over time, so it's a good idea to keep checking your disk collection periodically. But equally as troubling is making sure that you are actually getting what you think you're paying for... SeanOrange is a retro game fan from the US. Vinnk is a retro import fan who took things one step further and moved to Japan. Together they make Famicom Dojo: a web series dedicated exploring the Japanese history of video games and consoles from the other side of the Pacific. Nintendo Famicom Disk System Games A to Z

I'll upload the media if anyone is interested over on the Hyperspin forums when I get a chance. I made 60-80 Cases with a template. 120 or so were shared last year on the forums. Waiting patiently on the official Hyperspin team wheel set. Was a lot of fun playing famicom disk system and checking it out. Some of the carts I found online & just used magic eraser. Didn't spend much time cutting out the wheel from the cart. I usually like to play more than create media, but this was fun !!! Subscribe for more. Like, Share !!! Thanks for watching. FDS media was always tough to find.

CGRundertow FAMICOM DISK SYSTEM Video Game Hardware Review

03:17
Famicom Disk System review. Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow import hardware review of the Famicom Disk System. Floppies. Once a staple of the computer landscape, they're all but forgotten today, replaced by optical media and flash drives. But back in the day, right around 1986, Nintendo took a gamble on 'em and... well, made some decent games, while frustrating third-party publishers to no end. Behold, the Famicom Disk System, the peripheral that'll make you wish you could walk down to the convenience store and load a new game on your disk for three bucks. THREE DOLLARS. CASH. This video review features video gameplay footage of Deep Dungeon and Tobidase Daisakusen for Famicom Disk System and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's TJ. HOW TO EMULATE FAMICOM DISK SYSTEM GAMES (Real!!)

02:52
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. EMULATING THE FDS IS NOT JUST A MATTER OF DOWNLOADING AN EMULATOR AND A GAME ROM. PLEASE FOLLOW THESE STEPS. 1) Download FCEUX, it's an emulator that supports all forms of the 8-Bit Nintendo console including the Famicom Disk System. 2) GO TO THIS LINK - http://www.emuparadise.me/biosfiles/Nintendo_Disk_System_Boot_Sector.zip - Download the zip, extract it, you'll get DISKSYS.ROM. The ONLY file that works is DISKSYS.ROM (8kb). Put it in a folder (named something like "FDS Bios") 3) Open FCEUX, go to "Config" and click "Directories...", hit the Browse button next to FDS Bios Rom, choose the folder you made. 4) NOW you will be able to open your FDS game rome and it WILL WORK! IF THE LINK TO DISKSYS.ROM (8KB) ENDS UP BROKEN ONE DAY, CONTACT ME AND I WILL RE-UPLOAD IT RIGHT AWAY!!!!! GO HERE TO GET YOUR FDS GAME ROMS http://www.emuparadise.me/Nintendo_Famicom_Disk_System_ROMs/29 REMEMBER THE BIOS THEY HAVE THERE IS NOT THE CORRECT ONE. USE THE LINK IN STEP 2!!

A brief explanation on how to play Famicom Disk System Games on your fceux NES emulator for windows. Please note that you will have to find the ROMs and BIOS yourself (they are protected by copyright) and that the fceux uses the official Nintendo BIOS to run FDS games. This tutorial also assumes you know how to do things like unzip files, since most BIOS files are compressed. Join us on Discord: https://discord.gg/GqszxXf Like what we do? While there have been a few complaints, mostly about the lack of expandability, short cables, and especially the short supply, those who did manage to get one, or both, have been fairly pleased. Along the way theres been a few peripherals announced for the NES Classic Edition that have caused some excitement. There have also been several in Japan that have recently seen release that may be of interest to those with a penchant for importing. I think the Gaming Historian may have to add a new chapter to his history of the Famicom Disk System after this gets released There have been several guidebooks, most notably from Famitsu, the most popular gaming mag in Japan. Of course there are in-depth reviews and memories of the 30 games included in the Mini Famicom, but there’s more. The magazine includes scale sized cut-outs to make your own cartridges to “play” on the Mini Famicom. Theres also a Family Basic keyboard, Disk System and disks as well. Its a fun little way to get over the fact that you'll never be able to use any original carts on the machine. If that isn't enough to satisfy your retro needs, an actual Famicom Disk System Mini was released by accessory maker Columbus Circle on 1st January, 2017! Now, don’t get too excited, it will never play games on your Mini Famicom, but is a simple and convenient storage box for your HDMI and power cables when you're not playing. Its perfectly under the Mini Famicom and for many Famicom fans, it just feels right this way. Last but not least, a portable monitor has been released by GeChic, which if you have a portable battery, means you can take your Mini Famicom (or any HDMI machine) with you on the go.

SNES Classic - Famicom Disk System Test

05:50
Let's get Famicom Disk System going:) Updated my Core Set to handle FDS Bios Support:)
NES Classic - Famicom Disk System Test - Part 1

04:26
For those of you who have been having issue with certain FDS games, such as Nazo no Murasame, as far as disk switching. I show the easy way to do it in the video. I also show how to load Nestopia core for compressed games, since it defaults to Fceumm core, when compressed (You obviously still need --retroarch, at minimum:)...for NES and FDS. It would likely require a revision to the Retroarch HMOD, to run Nestopia by default, with compressed games, since this was not taken into account initially. But, nonetheless, this is still an easy way to do both workarounds. You can probably still use Global Arguments --retroarch --core nestopia, as an alternative option. But, my preference is FCEUMM core, overall. I avoid global commands, since I like to manually override each game, individually, that needs done:) NOTE:) No special setup required:) Other than making sure you have Retroarch HMOD installed:) Then "add" the game into hakchi2, and you will get a command line argument, similar to this, by default. /bin/clover-kachikachi-wr /usr/share/games/nes/kachikachi/CLV-Z-HGBYZ/CLV-Z-HGBYZ.fds --guest-overscan-dimensions 0,0,9,3 --initial-fadein-durations 10,2 --volume 75 --enable-armet --fds-auto-disk-side-switch-on-keypress Add THIS to the argument (make SURE to leave a space after the word keypress). --retroarch --core nestopia So, it will now be...roughly, this. /bin/clover-kachikachi-wr /usr/share/games/nes/kachikachi/CLV-Z-HGBYZ/CLV-Z-HGBYZ.fds --guest-overscan-dimensions 0,0,9,3 --initial-fadein-durations 10,2 --volume 75 --enable-armet --fds-auto-disk-side-switch-on-keypress --retroarch --core nestopia Alternately, you can amend the command line, like so... /bin/clover-kachikachi-wr /usr/share/games/nes/kachikachi/CLV-Z-HGBYZ/CLV-Z-HGBYZ.fds --guest-overscan-dimensions 0,0,9,3 --initial-fadein-durations 10,2 --volume 75 --enable-armet --fds-auto-disk-side-switch-on-keypress --retroarch --fceumm to run FCEUMM core, instead. You can "test" to see you have the proper command line, by holding down select+start simultaneously, while in a game. It should pull up retroarch options, if you have retroarch hmod installed. Given you have a proper controller:) L1 is automatically configured to FLIP the disk, R1 is automatically configured to EJECT and INSERT the disk. So, when you get the message for B, you EJECT (R1), then FLIP (L1), then INSERT (R1:) Most people do this incorrectly, and EJECT then INSERT, without flipping:) Try it, it works awesome! Not every game requires this "trick". Just some.

Kid Icarus gameplay on famicom disk system

10:42
The FDS version has a save function and also notice the enhanced music in some parts. I really like the gameplay on Kid Icarus, but the level up and "best ending" system is time consuming and confusing. Just playing to beat the game regardless of ending, I think it is fun. In this Japanese version, you can only get the best ending if you never die a single time. Good luck with that. :P Played on twin famicom console with original disk.

メトロイド Metroid Video Walkthrough

01:12:15
This is a video walkthrough / playthrough / runthrough / etc of the Famicom Disk System version of Metroid. I have a video up already of Metroid, but it's the US release of the NES version. You'll notice there are quite a few differences. Firstly, there is no password system in the FDS version, but a file system like in the Zelda games. Also, you'll notice the music and sound effects are a bit different. In my other video, I do get every single item, and end with a time that was a little over one hour. This resulted in getting the second best ending. I take a more leisurely pace as far as collecting items go. Since making the first video, I learned a few tricks, tried out a few different tactics, and the result was this video. I do get hit quite often, but I was trying to go for speed while collecting the items. I get everything except for two energy tanks. These are the ones in Kraid's room and the one to the left of Ridley's room. In this game, you can only hold six energy tanks, so there are two extra you don't have to actually get. So in a way I still get 100% items if you think about it... :P The ending I get in this one is the one you get for beating the game in less than an hour. The video is slightly longer than that, but I guess there are times when the timer stops. I have no idea how close I was to the threshold, but I suppose it helped not blasting away enemies to fill up on energy and missiles. So while I do get tossed around a bit, I feel it was well worth it.

Kaettekita Mario Bros. (帰ってきたマリオブラザーズ) Translated Famicom Disk Playthrough - NintendoComplete

43:20
A fully subtitled, beginning to end playthrough of Nintendo's 1988 Famicom Disk System game, Kaettekite Mario Bros. This was an odd remake of the arcade Mario Bros., being a promotion between Nintendo and a Japanese instant food manufacturer. Includes so really bizarre ads within the game, as well as a contest that allowed players to win trading cards and copies of Super Mario Bros. 3 when it came out. No cheats were used during the recording of this video. Famicom and Disk System - The Japanese NES // Famicom Dojo / Retro History

06:32
We review the Famicom, its launch title Popeye, and the Famicom Disk System (FDS) attachment that was never released outside of Japan. Released in 1983, the Family Computer (“Famicom”, for short) is Nintendo’s first home video game console, serving as the basis for their rise to power -- even though it was heavily redesigned when it was brought to North America and the rest of the world two years later as the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). In our first episode of Famicom Dojo, we explore the differences in the console’s features compared to the NES, and show how the Famicom Disk System versions of games are completely superior to any of the Cartridge-based ones we got in the US.
