Find this game and many more in my book "ESL Games for Kids - Proven Ideas for Teaching English Through Listening Exercises, Fun Activities and Games" http://amzn.to/1b2HblS DAY 3 - This catchy 1 to 10 Numbers song helps kids learn their numbers in English faster. I especially use this song if they continually forget or mix-up 1 or 2 numbers when counting, the tune of the song reminds them of the correct order. Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/englishlanguagegames Twitter: http://www.twitter/ESLchildren Website: http://www.EnglishLanguageGames.ORG Are you an ESL teacher looking for some fun English language games to use in your ESL beginners class? I was too a few years ago and I was all on my own so I started creating English teaching materials that would make learning English FUN and exciting Hi! My name is Karlee Demierre but my kids know me as "Teacher Karlee"! I'm Canadian but for the past 3 years have been living in the cute beach town of Trujillo, Honduras. In 2012, My husband and I miraculously created an English Language school in 2 weeks...which I like to refer to it as "The Gongshow" (Read the story on my site: http://www.englishlanguagegames.org/english-language-games/dream-come-true/ ) I've now been teaching English as a Second Language full time for a year at my school and absolutely love it! I teach 2 year old kids all the way up to adults, from the very basics to beginner to intermediate. This all began because I had been teaching an ESL beginners class to kids in Trujillo, Honduras for 2 years. Most ESL children's classes have between 4 to 20 kids... well I threw myself in a classroom of 30 to 40 "untamed" pre-school and kindergarden kids! (just to prove my sanity... I even volunteered!!) With no curriculum, no lesson plans, no previous experience and no guidance, I was on my own diving into this fun adventure called teaching English as a Second Language! The best part was that during this "adventure of mine", I discovered that teaching kids was truly my life's passion! A few years ago, I started to search online to get some ideas and I soon discovered that there wasn't much available that would keep these kids engaged, encourage them to participate in class and overall really learn English. So I started creating English language games and other English teaching materials that would engage my kids, accelerate their learning and really make learning English FUN for them! My mission is that these English language games will spark participation and ignite learning in your ESL beginners class. My goal is to give you some English teaching materials that will make it easy for you to teach ESL children and make it FUN for the kids to learn English! So I'm setting out to share my JOY with the world and I hope these English teaching materials and other ideas I share will help bring more LAUGHTER and PARTICIPATION to your ESL children's class and all the kids you LOVE! ... keep PLAYING and LEARNING! Teacher Karlee :-) , ,

The Most Fun English Teaching (ESL) Game -- "Hot Seat"

A quick 4-minute description of how to play "Hot Seat" and a list of possible phrases to use! This game is great for a one-hour long lesson; it can also be used to teach Spanish and French, for example, to non-native speakers. To be honest it can be used to teach any language. My specialty is teaching using games. Some people underestimate the power of learning through fun; however, I embrace it to keep my students interested. This game, "Hot Seat" is one that must be played with your students. 2 fun new ways to learn English vocabulary

10:49
Learning a new language is difficult and boring. Every student learns differently, and it's important to find a study method that is right for YOU. I want to put the fun back into studying English with two methods that are fun and which make learning easier and quicker! In this lesson, I will teach you how to make connections between words in order to remember them more easily. I will also reveal my hidden poet talents, so you don't want to miss this one! http://www.engvid.com/2-fun-new-ways-to-learn-english-vocabulary/ TRANSCRIPT Yeah, that was fun. I'm looking forward to hearing that from you later. Hi. James from engVid. In this video what I would like to do is help you work on vocabulary. I want to make it fun, because when things are fun, you work harder and you learn more. And today's lesson, I'm going to teach you two ways to not only just remember vocabulary, but learn how to use vocabulary in a way that we use it, and you will really understand it, and... Heck, it's fun. You're just going to have fun doing it. I'm sure you will. All right? It's a little bit creative. So, let's go to the board. Simple lesson. Here we go. Two ways to have fun with language. Not just language, but vocabulary. Ways that you may not be studying in class, we're going to do here today. The first one I want to talk to you about is fill in the gap. Huh? "A gap" means a space, there's a space between something. So, here's my hands, in between my hands is a gap. Okay? You have a gap between your eyes. One eye, one eye, space. In this case, you see I've got this: "tree __________ chair". Now, fill in the gap doesn't mean just one word. It's a couple of ways you can do this. In this particular game, we're going to take two vocabulary words, "tree", and take another one, "chair", and they're kind of a little obvious to make it easy for you, but what I want you to do is one of two things. The first thing we can do is use x words. What I mean by that is you could say: "I want to use five words, and I want to go from 'tree' to 'chair'." Or: "I want to use three words from 'tree' to 'chair'" or two. Huh? Well, okay. How do I get from "tree"? Okay. "Tree", "cut". You cut the tree down, right? "Lumber". Lumber you make into wood you can use. Let's see. "Carpenter". Find a carpenter. "Craft". "Craft" means make. You're like: "What?" These... All these words... And then I can say: "Furniture". Okay? Okay, furniture. "Chair", so if I have a tree, I cut it down and make it into lumber, I take it to a carpenter, he crafts it into a chair. Five words from A to B. So, one game is tell yourself: "I want to go from five... One word to another word, and I want five words to get there." And you can challenge yourself; maybe go from three words. Right? Or make 10 words. You can use it to describe something. How many words you can use to describe a certain thing. Right? "I have this word, and I want to go to this word. How many words does it take me to get there?" What this does is it teaches you relationship between words, and that also can teach you nouns and verbs, and how they function together. Or, we say "syntax", right? So, start at A, say: "I want to use five words to get there." This is a great word to do with a friend. You can say: "Okay, we're going to do 'tree' and 'chair', you need to do five words that make sense to go from 'tree' to 'chair'", and put a clock on for five minutes. You go, and she goes, you write together and see what words you get. Compare, check them out. "Why did you choose this, and why does this word...? What does this word mean?" Right? So, now, you're not just writing words in a book and saying: "This word means this." You're: "What does it mean? How do I use it? How would other people use it? How would other people think?" Right? Yeah. See? That's fun by yourself or with a friend. Okay, listen, the second way to play this game is: How many words to the answer? What? Well, we can pick up two random words, two, like... I have "chair"... "Tree" and "chair", we could have put "chair" and "moon". Now the game gets a little bit more interesting. Right? "Chair" and "moon". How many words does it get me to go from "chair" to "moon"? Now, you might say: "That's impossible. They have nothing to do with each other." I could say, "Listen, the chair in my living room"-"living room" is a noun-"sits"-which is a verb-"close to the big bay window where I can see the moon at night." How many words did it take me to get from "chair" to "moon"? So, it's playing with words, being creative.

Today's topic is "Days of the week" (Class of 19 students). หัวข้อของวันนี้คือ "วันของสัปดาห์" Kids love to race each other. In this game they practice speaking about activities and practice listening for days of the week. 1. Split the class into two teams. Give 7 students from each team a coloured ball. Each colour means a day of the week. Yellow = Monday, Pink = Tuesday, Green = Wednesday, Orange = Thursday Blue = Friday, Purple = Saturday, Red = Sunday. 2. The teacher asks one student "What day do you (say any activity)?" e.g. "What day do you go swimming?" 3. All students with balls must listen carefully. The student says any day at random. e.g. "Monday" 4. One student from each team with a yellow ball (for Monday) must quickly run around the circle in a clockwise direction until they get back to their chair. 5. First student back to their chair gets 1 point. 6. The winning teams is the one with the most points after a set time or first to 10 points wins. 7. After a student has run around they should give their ball to a student that doesn't have a ball, so that they can take part in the game. Game 2 1. Write on the board, the days of the week with activities next to them e.g Monday - Swimming, Tuesday - Fishing, Wednesday - English class.... 2. The teacher say "Today I am (choose an activity from the board)" e.g. "Today I am going fishing" 3. Student must quickly check on the board, what day do I go "fishing". In this case Tuesday. So one student from each team with pink balls (for Tuesday) runs around the circle and the first student back to their chair gets 1 point. ***Alternatively instead of running, students could throw the ball into a basket in the middle of the circle. They can throw the ball as many times as they need but must always throw from their chair. First student to get the ball in the basket gets 1 point. Counting Numbers | Numbers 1-20 Lesson for Children

08:23
"Counting Numbers 1-20" is a fun video for kids that teachers how to count from 1 to 20. The first scene slowly introduces the numbers 1-20 by counting little stars on the screen, first counting from 1-20, then counting backwards from 20-1. In the second scene, the video finishes with a fun number game where the children have to count the stars on the screen! This video is the perfect supplement to our popular numbers song "Counting from 1-20". It can be used as an introductory video before showing the numbers song. How to manage 15+ Czech five year old kids in your classroom, if you only speak English? It´s easy, no worries. You need a clear and structured lesson plan, you need to be a leader and you need to show a big warm smile. Use body language too and you will succeed. Children love to be surprised, entertained, they love physical activities and once you do all of it, you can introduce and drill any language you like, even comparatives.

Learn English – Vocabulary & Expressions for POKER and other card games

12:51
Do you know how to play the game of poker? If so, can you play it in English? After watching this fun lesson, you will be able to play a game of poker or any other card game using English vocabulary. You might also be surprised to know that this vocabulary appears in movies a lot! I will teach you the card names, suits, and the names of some combinations to help you win! You will learn the meaning of "bluff", "royal flush", "full house", "poker face", "three of a kind", and more. So grab your best lucky charms, and get ready to play. Good luck! Take the quiz on this lesson at: http://www.engvid.com/vocabulary-expressions-for-poker-and-other-card-games/ TRANSCRIPT Oh, there we are. Hi there. Welcome to poker night with Ronnie. Do you know how to play poker? Maybe? Do you know how to play poker in English? I'm going to teach you. I know how to play poker. I am not very good at playing poker; I always seem to get really terrible cards, no fault of my own. Very skilled in the game, just bad luck. Luck of the draw is not with me. I'm going to put my old-school video camera away, and we're going to learn how to play some poker in English. So, the first thing that we need to know about poker is it's a game. Woo-hoo. It's become very, very, very popular online because you can get a lot of money. The way I learned to play poker was my father taught me, after many a grape soda, sitting around the kitchen table, betting matchsticks. So, welcome to my childhood. I learned how to play poker. What did you do? The most important thing is to learn the name of the cards in English. So, probably you know: A, K, Q, J, 10, and the numbers, but these actually have names. The "A" is the Ace. The "K" is the King. The "Q" is the Queen. The Jack is the "J". Then it goes from 10 all the way down to 2. There is no 1. Sometimes the ace can be used as a 1, but that's too complicated, and I'm not going to tell you my tricks. Well, you're going to lose anyway, so might as well. The other thing that we need to know is what to call the cards. So, these are suits. Not... Suit? Suit, suit, suits... Suits, they're called... I don't know why they're called suits, they're just suits. So, the suits means: Hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades. Now, when I was a child, I had a very stupid brother. Still do. Mm-hmm. And for some reason, he said shovels. Okay? It's a spade, buddy; not a shovel. Get it right. Okay? So, hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades are the proper names of these. So, now you know the vocabulary of the wor-... Of the cards. I'm going to teach you some verbs that you need. The first one probably you know, is a bluff. "Bluff" means you have a face... Oh, Lady Gaga go away. Mm-hmm. Poker Face. Do you know what that means? "Poker face" means you are expressionless. Usually you have a baseball hat, so people can't see your eyes. But a bluff is when you do not let your face show your cards or what you're doing. So, if you're betting money or matchsticks and you want to bluff, you're going to pretend that you have a fabtabulous hand. Now, "the hand" means what cards you have. So, I'm going to pretend that I have the highest cards ever, called a "royal flush". So I would not make expressions with my face, and I would bet a lot of money. I would be bluffing, because maybe I have really, really bad cards. I always have bad cards. So, "bluff" means to, like, lie and pretend you have really, really good cards. The most important word is "bet". "Bet" means you put in money that you're going to lose or win, depending. Before they even deal the cards-"deal the cards" means you give them to people- there's something called an "ante". An "ante", not your mother's sister, means a forced bet before the deal. So, if we were playing cards or playing poker, and I have lots of money, I would ante $100. I would never do that. And then everyone else that wants to play would have to put in, automatically, $100, even before we look at our cards. Scary. What happens is we have the first bet is called "open". So, it would be my turn, I could open, which means I would put in money; or if I did not want to, I could "check" or "pass". This means I don't want to play with money. I'm just like: "No. Enh, we'll see what happens." If I have a really, really, really terrible hand, which means my cards are not good, I would do what's called "folding" or "fold". I would say: "Fold." Fold means: "This is terrible, I'm out. I end the game. I'm no longer playing this." When you bet, you can "call", which means you match what the other person has bet. For example, if the person before me bet $10, I would call, and I also would put in $10. If I wanted to get more money from people, I would "raise the pot", which means I would put in my $10, and I would add more money. So, if I had a really good hand, I would say: "I call the 10, and I raise you 50." So the other people playing, if they wanted to stay in the game, would have to put in $50.

TEFL (Almost) All Fun and ESL Games

02:38
Apply now through: http://www.meddeas.com/teaching-english-abroad/ My name is Emily, and I’m a 22-year-old from Ankeny, Iowa in the US. As you’ll see, I’m teaching ESL to teenagers in a school in northern Spain (440 teens, to be exact). Through this experience, I’ve found out that ESL games for kids are a good tool to engage students. How did I come to this conclusion? While I was more than a little nervous about taking on so many adolescent pupils, the secret to winning them over is to find out what motivates them. Don’t just take my word for it, though. As I’m in the advanced program, Meddeas has provided me with a course called Expert in Bilingual Education through the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya. Many educational experts we’ve studied in the course—like Robert C. Gardner and Larry Ferlazzo—say that students need to be intrinsically motivated in order to really learn a language. Exam grades, parents and teachers’ expectations, candy, even—these are all external motivators. I can wave these in front of my students all I want, but if they don’t have the ganas (“desire”) to learn, they won’t take much away from the class. So how do you find something that’s intrinsically motivating to 440 different teens? After months of trial and error, I discovered the common denominator of all my successes in the classroom: fun. ESL games for teenagers are a great way for students to drill vocabulary. They also help students become comfortable using new grammatical concepts, and develop conversational fluency in English. In the video, some of my 12-16 year-old students from 1-4 ESO demonstrate how this is done. I think you’ll find their ganas quite evident when there are ESL games in the classroom. While they sometimes walk down the hallways like they’re too cool for school, the video shows that they’re just absolute goofs who like to have a good time. This is evidenced by my 1st ESO students who insisted on wearing the stickers I gave them on their foreheads. Also by the fashionable Sellotape choker my 3rd ESO student Peru is sporting. He made it himself—a surprise to no one who knows him. Don’t let their cool, apathetic personas fool you—teens like to have fun, and the best way to entertain them in the classroom is through ESL games. They can get super competitive. Even the students who don’t care about learning English still usually care about winning. Thus, when using English is the medium to do that, they generally engage more and learn subconsciously. One of my personal pedagogical philosophies—adopted from theorist Stephen Krashen—has come to be that sometimes you have to distract students from realizing they are learning by making the subject or task itself so interesting and compelling that they forget they are using English. The same applies to students who are shy or worried about making mistakes: when they speak you have to make what they want to say or do overrule their fear of failure. Class isn’t all fun and games, though. Sometimes we have to crack down and do bookwork, listening exercises, and worksheets. Sometimes sass and hormone levels are high. ESL class games are always the reward for working hard, though, and that usually gets us through the class without too many problems. Teenagers aren’t the easiest age group to teach, but in the end, it’s been rewarding. I didn’t always want to teach them, though. I remember my Meddeas interview vividly: I’d been chatting with a lovely Spanish woman named Flavia in a café for over half an hour when I told her: “I think I’d most like to work with primary-aged students.” She took a long look at me, as if peering deep into my soul, profiling my innermost capabilities and desires, then said: “I think you could work with teenagers. I think sometimes we’re afraid to work with teens, but you seem like someone who could take charge.” Flavia’s benediction not only banished my fears of adolescent hormones, it filled me with “ganas” to teach that age group. Think of the satisfying, intelligent conversations I could have with teenagers who would be able to speak in complete sentences and contemplate abstract concepts! And alas, it came to be: I’ve spent the last year in the Basque Country of northern Spain teaching English to the teenagers of Larramendi Ikastola—all 440 of them in Secondary and Bachillerato. I know it’s not easy being a teenage. I was one a few years ago myself, so I can empathize. With this in mind, I’ve tried to prepare ESL games and classroom activities I would have enjoyed doing as a student learning Spanish. Besides, it’s a win-win—if the kids are having fun, this usually means that the teacher is too. By Emily P. For more information visit our blog: http://www.meddeas.com/blog/

Hello Everyone! In this video, I am teaching a kindergarten class of about 25 students. This is a live, unedited, English class for 3 and 4 year old Japanese children. I meet with these students about 3 times a month. In this English class, we are learning: A greetings song (I'm good, great, wonderful, hungry, tired, not so good). What's your name song. The alphabet song. Clothing and Colors. Numbers song (1-10). Clothing pattern: A skirt. It's a skirt. The songs I'm using here are from: Dream English: https://www.youtube.com/user/DreamEnglishKids Super Simple Songs: https://www.youtube.com/user/SuperSimpleSongs My videos are vocabulary-based for conversation practice. Each video is themed to provide context for learning. To insure success, every video is designed with open slots for vocabulary substitution practice.
