5 harmful effects of excessive video gaming

03:55
5 Most harmful effects of excessive video gaming Today More than 1.2 billion people are playing video games worldwide, and sales of games are growing. This popular form of media has both positive and negative effects on children. But playing video games too much, that can be a bad thing. Video game addiction can be as problematic as gambling. So, let’s dig into the harms of going into the deep end of video gaming. Obesity Scientists claim that video games make teenagers hungry and more likely to become obese. Over 45% of America’s 12 - 17 year olds spent more than two hours per day glued to a screen, and more than 1 in 7 children are overweight. Because video games are nothing but kicking back on the couch and punching buttons. And definitely sitting around for hours on end with minimal movement can make you more susceptible to health issues associated with obesity. The best approach is to mix in a little exercise and healthy snacks every few levels. Computer Vision Syndrome Most video games require lengthy involvement to finish any particular game, forcing the player to stay focused on the screen during playtime, and it is not great for your eyes. Prolonged bouts of video gaming can also cause symptoms very similar to Computer Vision Syndrome, or CVS. And also, it can cause a wide range of problems, most commonly led by eye strain and eye pain. To help prevent eye strain, make sure you have proper lighting to reduce glare, take frequent breaks to rest your eyes and blink often. You might miss that power up, but your eyes will thank you for it. Backaches Backaches are a common physical symptom of gaming addiction because most gamers stay seated in the same position for hours. The lack of movement causes stiffness and soreness, but could deteriorate into chronic back problems. So, if you must play, at least fix your posture. Migraine Migraine headaches typically start in one spot and slowly spread, getting more painful as they progress. In severe cases, the pain can be so extreme that it causes the sufferer to vomit. Light and noise can cause excruciating pain. While there are countless triggers for migraines, people who play video games for extended periods of time are more prone to these headaches because of the intense concentration required while gaming, as well as the strain put on the eyes by staring at a bright screen. Aggressive Behaviour and Mental Problems According to a new review of research, violent video games are linked to more aggressive behaviours among players. Children are at risk of becoming more impulsive, socially awkward, and more likely to become addicted to gaming over time. They are frustrated by resistance to accept studies that link violence to the video games as well as the lack of action on the issue. Kids who play violent games also tend to have more aggressive fantasies and engage in more aggressive behaviours. Enjoy and stay connected with us!! Video Games Damage The Brain's Frontal Lobe - D13 Watchmen

23:32
The frontal cortex of the brain does not mature until the age of 30. "Gray matter atrophy: Multiple studies have shown atrophy (shrinkage or loss of tissue volume) in gray matter areas (where “processing” occurs) in internet/gaming addiction (Zhou 2011, Yuan 2011, Weng 2013,and Weng 2012). Areas affected included the important frontal lobe, which governs executive functions, such as planning, planning, prioritizing, organizing, and impulse control (“getting stuff done”). Volume loss was also seen in the striatum, which is involved in reward pathways and the suppression of socially unacceptable impulses. A finding of particular concern was damage to an area known is the insula, which is involved in our capacity to develop empathy and compassion for others and our ability to integrate physical signals with emotion. Aside from the obvious link to violent behavior, these skills dictate the depth and quality of personal relationships." Fox,CNN,MSNBC,ABC all use NLP techniques on their viewers. Television Programming the unaware. (Neuro Linguistic Programming) See how it's done. Turn that T.V. off and study the KJV bible. Let God give you what you need* https://youtu.be/3rbussqP7po PRAYER TO LEAD A LOST PERSON TO CHRIST Dear heavenly Father, I admit that I'm a sinner, I confess with my mouth and believe in my heart that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, He died on the cross, arose 3 days later, He sits at the right hand of the Father, I ask him to forgive my sins, come into my heart, save me in the day of trouble, keep me holy, and guide me with every step, in Jesus name Amen. (Get on FIRE for Jesus people. The Lord will REJECT you if you are a luke warm christian) Revelation 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. PRODUCE FOR God’s kingdom. GET BUSY FOR God. Matthew 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. (Don’t stand in front of Christ empty handed with no souls under your belt on judgment day. It’s the Job of EVERY christian to lead atleast 1 person to the Lord.) 24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. 26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. 28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. 29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. 30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Do Video Games Make You Smarter?

We've all been told that playing video games can distract you from school but is this true? Do video games affect academic performance? How Video Games Change Your Brain - http://bit.ly/2aOpUnc Sign Up For The Seeker Newsletter Here - http://bit.ly/1UO1PxI Read More: Internet Usage And Educational Outcomes Among 15-Year-Old Australian Students http://ijoc.org/index.php/ijoc/article/view/5586/1742 "Children in rich countries are using the internet for social networking and gaming at very high rates, particularly in Australia. This study addresses whether these activities affect educational achievement in mathematics, reading, and science using the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development's 2012 Program for International Student Assessment data set. The results suggest that using online social networks reduces academic achievement. Conversely, playing online games increases scores." Young Children Who Play Video Games May Experience Improved Social Skills, Intelligence, And School Performance http://www.medicaldaily.com/young-children-video-games-social-skills-school-performance-377142 "The benefits of playing video games have become clearer than ever in recent years, allowing them to shed their negative reputation for stoking violence and antisocial behavior. Studies have pointed to their ability to improve cognitive function in multiple sclerosis patients as well as how we navigate the world. And now, new research shows that spending lots of time playing Super Mario at an early age benefits kids' mental health by making them more social, better in school, and overall more intelligent." Video Games And Aggressive Thoughts, Feelings, And Behavior In The Laboratory And In Life http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10794380 "Two studies examined violent video game effects on aggression-related variables. Study 1 found that real-life violent video game play was positively related to aggressive behavior and delinquency. The relation was stronger for individuals who are characteristically aggressive and for men. Academic achievement was negatively related to overall amount of time spent playing video games. In Study 2, laboratory exposure to a graphically violent video game increased aggressive thoughts and behavior. In both studies, men had a more hostile view of the world than did women." ____________________ DNews is dedicated to satisfying your curiosity and to bringing you mind-bending stories & perspectives you won't find anywhere else! Your brains on action games: Daphne Bavelier at TEDxCHUV

19:02
Surprisingly, playing what most of society perceives as potentially harmful games results into long lasting beneficial effects on brain and behavior; in contrast, multimedia tasking an activity cherished by our society has detrimental impacts. Clearly the effect of media use are far from intuitive! Daphne Bavelier is an internationally-recognized expert on how humans learn. In particular, she studies how the brain adapts to changes in experience, either by nature - for example, deafness - or by training - for example, playing video games.  Initially trained in Biology at the 'Ecole Normale Superieure de Paris', she then received a PhD in Brain and Cognitive Sciences from MIT and trained in human brain plasticity at the Salk Institute.  Her work shows that playing fast-paced, action-packed entertainment video games typically thought to be mind-numbing actually benefits several aspects of behavior.  Exploiting this counterintuitive finding, her lab now investigates how new media, such as video games, can be leveraged to foster learning and brain plasticity. About TEDx: In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Episode 4: Violent Video Games’ Effects On Children

32:49
In Episode 4 of Meet The Professors, Craig Anderson (Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Director of the Center for the Study of Violence, Iowa State University), Brad Bushman (Professor of Communication and Psychology, The Ohio State University), and Deana Pollard Sacks (Roberson King Professor of Law, Texas Southern University) discuss the dozens of studies showing that children and adolescents who spend a significant amount of time playing violent video games become more aggressive in their thoughts and actions. The relatively new brain scan studies show that brain chemistry is altered when video games are played for long period of time, and permanent brain re-wiring can result, with attendant negative effects such as conduct disorder, aggression, “mean world syndrome,” and depression.

Violent Video Games and Their Effects on Adolescents

02:34
Fact check me! If you have a hard time believing any of the information presented in this video I have provided all the resources that I used below. Hope you enjoyed the video! Aamodt, S. & Wang, S. (2008). Welcome to Your Brain: Why You Lose Your Car Keys But Never Forget How to Drive and Other Puzzles of Everyday Life. New York: Bloomsbury USA. I used this source to explain a study about video game players who play action video games tend to process information more quickly, can track more objects at once and have better task switching abilities than non-video game players. This helps strengthen my claim that certain video games can be beneficial and that not all video games are bad for children. Anderson, Craig A. “An update on the effects of playing violent video games.” Journal of Adolescence, vol. 27, no. 1, 2004, pp. 113–122., doi:10.1016/j.adolescence.2003.10.009. This study showed that exposure to violent video games is significantly linked to increases in aggressive behavior, aggressive cognition, aggressive affect, and cardiovascular arousal, and to decreases in helping behavior. This helps show that violent video games have some negative effects to them. Gentile, Douglas A. Media violence and children: a complete guide for parents and professionals. Westport, CT, Praeger, 2003. Gentile (2003) discusses the metaphorical aggressive behavior thermometer. This source allowed me to show the different levels of aggression and how violent media can heighten it.  According to Gentile, media violence generally moves individuals about 3 ‘degrees’ on the metaphorical aggressive behavior thermometer. The picture of the thermometer is shown in the video. Sherry, John L. "The effects of violent video games on aggression." Human communication research 27.3 (2001): 409-431. Sherry (2001) indicates that the type of violent video game you purchase for your child could actually predict the level of aggression they exhibit. Video games with human or fantasy violence have been shown to have greater effects on aggression on children than video games containing sports violence. This source was used as additional information as to why adolescents should stay away from violent media and videogames.

Ready, Player One: How Video Games Affect Your Brain and Behavior

01:37:17
In 1971, the first commercially sold coin-operated video game opened the gates for the era of gaming as we know it. From those early days of “Computer Space”, video games have grown into a $74 billion dollar market worldwide. The wide appeal of video games has not been without controversy. Like rock’n’roll in the 50s, video games have been the objects of opposition from parent and religious groups, as well as politicians. Join us for an evening that will address some of the questions raised by the growing consumer demand for more video games. What effects do violent games have on behavior? Is there such a thing as video game “addiction”, and if so, is it curable? How can playing video games actually benefit your brain? Steven Pinker: The Impact of Violent Video Games on Kids

01:33
Steven Pinker (@sapinker), Cognitive Scientist and Professor of Psychology at Harvard University, talks with Aroop Mukharji (@aroopmukharji) about violence and video games, war, and why academic writing is so bad. Listen to the full interview: https://soundcloud.com/belfercenter/sets/office-hours More about Steven Pinker: http://stevenpinker.com Belfer Center website: http://www.belfercenter.org Mukharji: What is the research on kids and violent video games? Are those desensitizing kids to violence? Pinker: Nah. Mukharji: Or are they, is it sublimation—the idea that you can, you channel those basic urges into safe and socially acceptable channels? Pinker: I think it's, it's neither. That, um… If consuming violent media made you violent, then we should prevent adults from reading The Iliad, or for that matter the Old Testament. Together with Shakespearean tragedies and Godfather movies and much else. Mukharji: Surely reading Shakespeare is different than like shooting people on a screen, right? Pinker: Not necessarily because in Shakespeare you have a lot of violence that is presented as justified, and that gives you satisfaction. The data show that video games have skyrocketed in popularity during exactly the historical period in which violent crime has sunk to the floor. And in the same age cohorts. I don't think it's because that we have some hydraulic urge to violence that has to be channeled through one conduit less than burst out into another, but it is, so it partly these are independent about developments. Partly the beneficial effect of video games may just be that if you’re playing video games you're not getting into trouble in other ways. And so the young men who are behind the screen are not out picking fights in bars or over parking spots.

Violent Video Games Reduce Brain Response to Violence and Increase Aggressive Behavior

02:27
Scientists have known for years that playing violent video games causes players to become more aggressive. The findings of a new MU study provide one explanation for why this occurs: the brains of violent video game players become less responsive to violence, and this diminished brain response predicts an increase in aggression.

How video gaming, texting & computer affect the brain - Joe Dipenza part 2

12:57
Joe Dispenza, D.C., studied biochemistry at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. He also holds a BS degree with an emphasis in Neuroscience. Dr. Dispenza also received his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree at Life University in Atlanta, Georgia, graduating magna cum laude. Over the past decade, Dr. Dispenza has lectured in 24 different countries on six continents educating people about the role and function of the human brain. He has taught thousands of people how to re-program their thinking through scientifically proven neuro-physiologic principles. As a result, this information has taught many individuals to reach their specific goals and visions by eliminating self-destructive habits. His approach, taught in a very simple method, creates a bridge between true human potential and the latest scientific theories of neuroplasticity. He explains how thinking in new ways, as well as changing beliefs, can literally rewire one's brain. The premise of his work is founded in his total conviction that every person on this planet has within them, the latent potential of greatness and true unlimited abilities. His first book, Evolve Your Brain: The Science of Changing Your Mind connects the subjects of thought and consciousness with the brain, the mind, and the body. The book explores "the biology of change." That is, when we truly change our mind, there is a physical evidence of change in the brain. As an author of several scientific articles on the close relationship between the brain and the body, Dr. Dispenza ties information together to explain the roles these functions play in physical health and disease. His DVD release of Evolve Your Brain: The Science of Changing Your Mind, which was filmed in Australia, is based on the book and looks at the ways in which the human brain can be used to affect reality through the mastery of thought. He also sits as an invited editorial advisor of Explore Magazine. In his research into spontaneous remissions, Dr. Dispenza has found similarities in people who have experienced so-called miraculous healings, showing that they have actually changed their mind, which then changed their health. http://www.drjoedispenza.com/ To support the juicy living tour and to watch more video interviews, visit http://www.JuicyLivingTour Donate now to support the Juicy Living Tour at http://juicylivingtour.com/support-the-juicy-tour/donate-now/ Stay tuned on the Juicy Living Tour and where it is right now in the world from Lilou's facebook fan page at http://facebook.com/liloumacewebtv
