How many links do you need to rank on the first page of Google?

Asking the question "How many links do you need to rank on the first page of Google?" is a bit like asking a person how long is a piece of string? We would love to give a definitive answer, however it is usually a question that is impossible to answer. In this video, I want to give you some insights to a campaign that I was involved with a few years ago. The campaign saw my team and I engage in a link building campaign that allowed us to rank the website on the first page of Google in less than one year for a series of keywords. There were some keywords that weren't too competitive and then there were others that were much more competitive. The total amount of links that we produced for the client was 140. The site started to rank on the first page in 7 months. Afterwards, we were able to rank some niche keywords for the same client within 1-2 months. The amount of links that's required to rank web content differs. The strategy that we adopted at the time consisted of guest blog posts and adding links to already authoritative web pages. At the time, no onsite optimisation or content optimisation was implemented. In hindsight, if we had also implemented a content strategy, the site would have attracted natural links that would have amplified their reach in the organic search space.
